The Mazda brand did not want to waste time after the official launch of the slight “facelift” that its Mazda2 went through: the lack of a solution with a Full Hybrid powertrain in the range was felt and so the Hiroshima company decided to expand the list of its “attack” utility car with a practically new model, equipped with the complete hybrid derived from the one used on the Toyota Yaris.

The collaboration between the two Japanese automobile giants, however, proved even more profound, because the new Mazda2 2022 in the Full Hybrid version also completely changes its aesthetics, inheriting on balance (albeit with some differences) the shapes of the city car. twin. 

As you can also verify by looking at the photos in the gallery, the proportions between the two cars are substantially the same (length 3.94 meters, width 1.75, height 1.47, wheelbase 2.68 meters and 286 liter trunk) just like the look of the body and the layout of the dashboard.

What really changes are the logos on the front, rear and in the passenger compartment: the engine is also identical, given that the new Mazda2 Hybrid adopts the powertrain of the Yaris Hybrid characterized by a 1.5 liter three-cylinder internal combustion gasoline engine in combination with an additional electric unit, which helps to reach the maximum output of 116 horsepower . 

In this way the performance speaks of a 0-100 sprint concluded in 9.7 seconds and a top speed of 175 km / h , while consumption (according to the WLTP cycle) settles on 3.8-4.0 liters per 100. km and about 87-93 g / km of CO2 emissions.

How will the Full Hybrid system of the newcomer Mazda work? At start-up, the Japanese car ill start in fully electric mode (EV), while in gear the battery-powered unit will help the main engine to ensure the best performance as well as the lowest possible consumption level. 

During the deceleration and braking phases , on the other hand, the new Mazda2 Hybrid will use kinetic energy restoration technology to recover charge to be stored in a special battery pack: in this way it will not be necessary to “fill up” at the columns or other sources. external.
