Toyota Hilux, this utility truck would come to sour the party for models like the Ford F150 Lightning and Tesla Cybertruck.

Toyota is one of the most active brands in exploring new eco-friendly alternatives in terms of mobility; Examples abound, from the skilled Toyota Mirai , a fuel cell electric that already has several records , as well as his idea of preparing a hydrogen-fueled combustion engine .

Beyond the advancements that few others explore, it seemed that Toyota was somewhat relegated to the great advance of conventional electric vehicles (EV); However, as we told you a few days ago, the Japanese manufacturer has ambitious plans on this front with its  new project for 100% electric vehicles , which includes the production of a  pick-up . Is an electric Hilux coming? What is known about this brand new utility? Let’s see.

The new 100% electric horizon

Dubbed “Battery EV Strategies,” Toyota’s new strategy was announced with no less than  16 concept models ,  all battery-powered  (apparently no hydrogen-fueled combustion engines)  and not only bearing the “T” badge, but also that of  Lexus , its luxury brand.

The family of future models includes everything from  city cars  to  supercars , to  SUVs  and  crossovers . Among them, a   white pick-up caught our attention. Of course, we are talking about a truck made by Toyota, a brand that with the Hilux conquers not only the local market (in the accumulated at the end of November, it led the segment with 3,122 new units registered, according to Fenal-Andi), but this year established as the best pick-up in the world .

Hilux anti Cybertruck and F150 Lightning?

The concept of the future utility with platter, which at launch was simply named the  Toyota Pickup EV , features lines already seen in some current trucks of the brand. For example, its headlamps are reminiscent of the  Tacoma  (sold in North America), as are its side and clearance styling lines.

For their  moldings  on  fenders  and  front bumper , it seems to be made primarily for  off-road terrain , even though all ways it is too early to know its final destination.

In terms of  mechanics ,  performance  and  batteries , Toyota  did not provide any data , neither of the pick-up nor of any of the other concepts.

When is Toyota’s electric pick-up launched?

According to what was announced in the presentation of the new strategy, Toyota expects to reach  2030  with some  3.5 million 100% battery-powered units sold . That is, the prototypes may evolve to see the light of day as production models  in the coming years .

As for the pick-up, Toyota would be involved in a segment that in the coming years will have the following members:

Tesla Cybertruck  ( to be produced from  2022 )

Ford F150 Lightning  ( already in production )

Rivian R1T  (already in production)

Chevrolet Silverado electric  (to launch in 2022)

Electric RAM 1500  ( to be launched in  2024 )
