Hyundai Brings New Hyundai Ioniq 6 Electric Sedan to Winter Tests

Hyundai Motor has begun winter testing of the promising Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan. Photos of camouflaged working prototypes have appeared, taken near the Arctic Circle.

The first mention of Ioniq 6 was in August 2020. Even then it was known that it would be an electric sedan. By the way, it was in August 2020 that Hyundai announced that all the company’s electric trains would be released under the Ioniq sub-brand.

While the prototype is carefully disguised, it is obvious that it has its own original body, that is, it is not a “mule”. Separate stylistic decisions can be borrowed from the 2020 Prophecy concept car . Recall that it was a four-door coupe, the exterior of which combines retrograde and futuristic elements: proportions a la sports cars of the 60s and pixel lighting.

According to preliminary information, the overall length of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is 4855 mm, the wheelbase is 2950 mm. Earlier in February, the Korean Economic Daily, citing its own sources, reported that the Ioniq 6 will offer more room in the cabin compared to the Hyundai Sonata sedan , which is 45 mm longer.

The Ioniq 6 is built on the E-GMP platform, which is used in the new electric vehicles of the Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands. It is assumed that a traction battery with a capacity of 77.4 kWh will already be provided in the database: just last week, Ioniq 5 received this in the Long Range version.

On electric motors, you can also draw a parallel between the Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 5: in the rear-wheel drive version they will install one engine with a capacity of 228 hp, in the all-wheel drive version – two with a return of 101 hp. front and 224 hp behind. The power reserve on one charge will be 400-500 km.

The exact timing of the start of production of Hyundai Ioniq 6 has not yet been advertised. It was previously assumed that the electric car would be on the assembly line in March 2022, but the Korean Economic Daily reported that due to the need to refine the design, the start of production was postponed to July-August. According to sources, the Korean company decided to lengthen the body by 20 mm and change the design of the bumpers.
