New Subaru WRX presented The fifth generation sedan is only three horsepower more powerful than its predecessor. The 5th generation of Subaru WRX sedan has been officially presented, but so far in the specification for the United States of America. As expected, he moved to the SGP (Subaru Global Platform) platform, got a 2.4 turbo engine, retained the Symmetrical AWD four-wheel drive, plus got an updated EyeSight safety complex. The new WRX will hit the market next year.
The new Subaru WRX has finally migrated to the SGP modular platform , which benefits from a lower center of gravity and a more rigid structure. To increase the stability and comfort of the sedan, the chassis geometry was adjusted and the front suspension travels were increased, plus the power steering was replaced with an electric dual-pinion, where one gear transmits the rotational force to the steering rack directly from the driver, and the second from the electric motor.
There was no revolution in the design of the WRX. But Subaru has tried to improve aerodynamics. For example, slots behind the front wheels reduce lift on the front axle; holes at the ends of the rear bumper reduce lateral swing; wheel arch linings have a special textured surface that reduces air resistance, and the same is the case for the engine crankcase. By the way, in the same place, under the bottom, special channels are molded that accelerate the air to increase the pressure.
Power Performance
Under the hood of the WRX there is now a “turbo four” 2.4 with a return of 275 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque (the predecessor had three less forces and the same amount of torque). There are two gearboxes: a six-speed “mechanics” and a high-speed variator, which is now called the Subaru Performance Transmission. It can switch to manual mode with an imitation of eight steps, adapts to the driving behavior, and also matches the revs when shifting down gear and maintains the optimal gear ratio in corners.
The design of the Symmetrical AWD transmission depends on the choice of the box. Cars with “mechanics” have a symmetrical center differential with a viscous coupling, variator versions have a differential and an electronically controlled hydraulic clutch that transmit up to 55 percent of the thrust to the rear axle. The SI-Drive mode switch with three profiles is still available, plus a Drive Mode Select system has appeared, which allows you to adjust the steering effort, shock absorber stiffness and more than 400 parameters.
Interior of Subaru WRX
However, such an add-on is available only for the top-end GT WRX, equipped with electronically controlled shock absorbers, Recaro seats with Ultrasuede trim, 18-inch wheels and an EyeSight safety complex with adaptive cruise control and Automatic Emergency Steering. The latter works in harmony with the frontal collision avoidance function and helps to dodge sudden obstacles at speeds up to 80 kilometers per hour.
In addition, the new WRX features LED headlights, 11.6-inch vertical split-screen multimedia, navigation, rearview camera and 11-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
