New 2022 Ford Maverick – Mid-size pickup truck

Ford Motor has unveiled a completely new model – a mid-size pickup crossover under the name Maverick. Usually, off-road pickups are created on a chassis with a separate spar frame, longitudinal engine, and leaf spring rear suspension. But the new Ford Maverick relies on a frameless passenger platform with a “transverse” engine and springs at the back, which is why it is logical to call it a pickup crossover.

The length and width of the new items are 5072 and 1755 mm, respectively, that is, it is 282 mm shorter and 61 mm narrower than the frame Ranger T6.

Maverick is producing in only one body version – with a two-row four-door cab. And an internal length of the cargo compartment of 1381 mm.

The pickup is based on the Ford C2 platform, which is used for the compact Focus, as well as the Kuga III and Bronco Sport crossovers.

Performance Details

The basic configuration of the new pickup is a hybrid system that includes a 2.5-liter petrol engine (191 hp). continuously variable variator and an electric motor. Front-wheel drive. The advantage of such a car is its low fuel consumption, only 5.9 l / 100 km.

The more expensive version is equipped with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost petrol turbo with a capacity of 250 hp. It is aggregate with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Here the drive can be front or full.

The carrying capacity of the machine does not depend on the version and is 680 kg – this is less than that of the UAZ Pickup  (725 kg) or the onboard GAZ Sobol (800 kg). The maximum weight of the towed trailer is 900 kg. That is, you cannot tow another car on the new Maverick, a maximum of a couple of jet skis. True, on the version with a turbo engine. You can order a set of modifications, with which the maximum weight of the towed trailer increases to 1800 kg.

The exterior of the car is deliberately laconic – there is nothing to catch the eye in proportions, plasticity, and detailing. Visually combined with the radiator grille with large headlights, the car resembles the second-generation Explorer SUV, produced in 1995-2000.

Inside, the Maverick features the traditional T-shaped architecture of the dashboard and washable materials – hard plastic plus wear-resistant fabric upholstery. The standard package includes the Sync 4 media complex with an 8-inch tablet-type screen. Behind it, there is a small storage compartment.

A pickup crossover will appear in Europe, but in Russia, it is not worth waiting for – in our country, Ford has not sold any models, except for the Transit, for two years.
