On January 13, Toyota Motor introduced a new (fourth in a row) generation of mid-size platform vans Toyota Voxy and Noah (these models are traditionally sold only in the domestic market of Japan).

The novelties, their code designation R90, are built on the modern TNGA GA-C modular platform, the Corolla E210 passenger family, the Corolla Cross and C-HR crossovers, as well as the Prius XW50, for example, rely on the same. Especially for the R90, another modification of this chassis has been developed with an optimized geometry of the MacPherson type front suspensions and a reinforced torsion beam at the rear.

The overall length, width and height of the Toyota Voxy and Noah R90 are 4695, 1730 and 1895 mm, respectively, the wheelbase is 2850 mm.

The body of Toyota Voxy and Noah is designed from scratch, it has a two-volume shape with a short but pronounced hood.

The outer width has been increased by 35 mm relative to its predecessor, but the interior space between the C-pillars (near the second row seats) has increased by 75 mm to 1295 mm, making the interior much more spacious and comfortable.

The overall height has grown by 70 mm, but 50 mm of them are for the antenna, so in the cabin the distance from floor to ceiling is increased by only 5 mm – up to 1405 mm.

The electric side sliding doors have a free locking function, that is, they can be stopped by pressing a button in any position. The lifting tailgate with a servo mechanism can also be held in any position – this will be in demand when unloading luggage in super tight conditions.

For new products, two motor versions were offered:

  • gasoline, engine – M20A-FKS, volume – 2.0 l, power – 170 hp, torque – 202 Nm;
  • hybrid, series-parallel type, includes a 1.8-liter 2ZR-FXE gasoline engine (98 hp, 142 Nm), a 1VM electric motor (70 kW, 95 hp, 185 Nm) and a lithium-ion battery.

Both options use a stepless variator. The “base” has front-wheel drive, an all-wheel drive transmission is available for an extra charge, and for a hybrid it is of the e-Four type, that is, with a separate electric motor that drives the rear axle in conditions of insufficient traction (its power is 30 kW, 41 hp, torque – 84 Nm).

The interior is arranged in three rows, a seven- or eight-seat configuration is possible. In the first version, the seats on the second row have a folding support for the legs – so you can organize ottomans for relaxing. For even more comfort, there is an ingenious transformation option: fold and recline the third-row seats to the sides, while moving the second-row seats to the luggage compartment – you get a lot of legroom for two rear passengers.

In the longitudinal position, the second-row seats in a seven-seater car are moved up to a distance of 745 mm. In the eight-seater configuration (not available for the E-Four), a three-seater sofa with a 60/40 split is installed on the second row, the range of its movement along is less – up to 705 mm.

It is alleged that the supporting frame of the body has become much more rigid relative to its predecessor – this increased passive safety and improved the car’s behavior on the road. The press service of Toyota did not indicate the exact characteristics of body rigidity.

To simplify boarding in the passenger compartment, an optional electric step is available, its height for 2WD vehicles is 200 mm, for 4WD vehicles it is 225 mm.

Toyota Voxy and Noah traditionally have a number of style differences, and in the new incarnation, both models have a deliberately aggressive exterior.

Voxy can be recognized by the two-tier headlights: DRL, dimensions and direction indicators are located at the top, low and high beam blocks are in the bumper. The bumper combines horizontal lamellas and a “wicker” motif, with “foglights” hidden in the cells below. Behind the Voxy is the original graphics of the lights, with a full-width parking light.

Noah has a less futuristic appearance. In front – traditional one-piece headlights and an air intake with wide horizontal slats. Behind – more graceful graphics of lanterns.

For most steel stamped parts of the body, the models are unified among themselves, but all external parts of the plumage are original for each.

The standard equipment of Toyota Voxy and Noah includes a seven-inch digital instrument panel and a media complex with an eight-inch display. For an extra charge – a 10-inch screen. The buyer can subscribe to the T-Connect subscription, which, among other things, allows you to organize a Wi-Fi Internet access point in the car with the ability to connect up to five external devices.

In addition, Toyota Voxy and Noah are equipped with the latest generation Toyota Safety Sense, a complex of preventive safety systems that includes automatic emergency braking with recognition of pedestrians and cyclists, traffic jam autopilot (operates at speeds up to 40 km/h), automatic valet parking (forward, reverse or parallel way). The new Toyota Voxy and Noah can also park in and out of the parking lot on command received from the owner at a distance via smartphone.

Sales of the new Toyota Voxy and Noah have already started in Japan.
