Ford Motor has finally unveiled the highly anticipated F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck. It was announced a couple of years ago, the company has repeatedly demonstrated. the remarkable capabilities of the car for towing huge loads. And on May 18, US President Joe Biden rolled on a camouflaged prototype. All of this speaks to how important the model is to Ford and the States as a whole.
Visually, the F-150 Lightning is similar to a standard gasoline pickup truck. But the novelty has received redesigned lighting fixtures with LED strips across the entire width of the body at the front and rear.
Details of Ford F-150
Inside there is a large 15.5-inch vertical touchscreen and digital “tidy”.
The most important thing is to hide under the hood. Or rather, not quite under it: now there is a trunk with a volume of 400 liters. Compact electric motors are axle-mounted at the front and rear, and the traction battery is mounted at frame level. By the way, the frame here is not quite standard: the spars and cross members to be reinforced.
The battery is close from below with a thick sheet of metal. Water cooling is used to maintain the optimum temperature of the batteries regardless of the ambient conditions.
Performance of F-150
Two versions of the F-150 Lightning are presenting a standard battery (432 hp, range – 370 km). And an increase (571 hp and 482 km). The torque in both cases is 1,051 Nm. The exact capacity of the battery has not been disclosed.
The older model is capable of accelerating from 0 to 96 km / h (60 mph) in just 4.4 seconds. Ford calls this F-150 the fastest in the history of the series.
Since a pickup is a utilitarian vehicle, engineers have not forgotten about the most important qualities for it. The basic F-150 Lightning is capable of carrying up to 900 kg of cargo in the body. And pulling a trailer weighing up to 3.5 tons when ordering an optional package (without it – up to 2.3 tons). A car with an enlarged battery will carry up to 840 kg and tows up to 4.5 tons.
There is a Pro Power Onboard system on board with 120 and 240 V sockets. The maximum power of connected devices is up to 9.6 kW. Ford says the car can provide a private home with power for three days – not a superfluous opportunity given the massive blackouts in February 2021.
In the “base” Ford F-150 Lightning costs $ 39,974 (= 2.9 million rubles). Which makes it more affordable than the Tesla Cybertruck (it costs the same but with one electric motor). And this is without taking into account government subsidies. So in some states, the price can be reduced to about $ 30,000. Taking into account the installation of an older battery. A pickup in the maximum configuration will pull about $ 90,000 (= 6.6 million rubles).
