As for customers, they will not deliver before September 2021 .. for those who have ordered immediately. For DS, the Geneva Motor Show 2020 was a particularly important event. Absent from the two previous editions and the only representative of the PSA group scheduled for this year, the young French brand had to make a good impression. For this, she planned to bring in her luggage two novelties: a concept (DS Aero Sports Lounge) and a production model (DS9). The latter, whose presentation been postponing many times, was awaited for its first international exhibition with a certain impatience … Of course, the Swiss show did not take place, but that does not mean that the large road sedan of DS was not put forward. It was time for her to show off, and not just in pictures …

The design of the front, on the other hand, is more in the spirit of the brand’s productions: an imposing grille with Germanic accents, lights placed slightly higher up, all framed by the famous DS Wings.

On the model shown here, the grille was designed using the parametric design, already use in the design of elements of the E-Tense concept (Geneva 2016). On the standard versions, it sports a design similar to that of the DS7 Crossback SUV. The LED daytime running lights are pushed back to the ends of the shield and sport a new design compares to those of the DS7 or DS3 Crossback.

When approaching the car with the key (or a cell phone acting as a key), the handles retract automatically. Onboard, few surprises, especially regarding the layout of the dashboard. It’s almost a cut and paste of that of the DS7 Crossback, the two cars having indeed developing almost at the same time. The DS9 adopts the same 12-inch touchscreen for infotainment, highlighted by the same buttons, and the center console is still imposing with its power window controls.

The lever of the 8-speed automatic gearbox is slightly recessed, offering space in front of it for the mobile phone. The storage is now all obscured by caches, it is more “class”. The central air vents are larger and the lateral ones less aesthetic.

DS9 Interior Details

DS has also worked on the indirect interior lighting with LED strips subtly concealed all around the passenger compartment up to the rear seats. The door bins are lined with felt and the atmosphere is clearly that of a high-end car. The DS9 holds its rank.

And in view of the catalog, DS really intends to orient its buyers towards its plug-in hybrid range. It has indeed three versions (225, 250, and 360 hp), a single gasoline (Puretech 225 hp), and no diesel. The basis of the plug-in hybrid system is always the same: the 1.6 PureTech with 180 hp associate with an electric motor displaying more or less power depending on the capacity of the battery that powers it.

Only the version has two electric motors, one of which is on the rear axle, a “detail” that requires the car to go back to a workshop in Poissy after disembarking from China. It will only offer in Europe. Autonomy should range between 40 and 60 km (WLTP cycle) depending on the version. In all cases, the transmission operates by the 8-speed automatic gearbox.
