Nissan Motor has unveiled the new-generation Z34 rear-wheel-drive Z sports car Nissan Fairlady Z for the Japanese domestic market at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022 . Here the car will be referred to by the historical name Fairlady Z.

Recall that the next Nissan Z, the seventh in a row, debuted in August 2021 , but then they showed a left-hand drive version for North America.

The JDM version of the sports coupe repeats the model for the Americans, minus the right-hand drive and controls, as well as headlights, instrument clusters, etc. converted to Japanese standards.

Exterior of Nissan Fairlady Z

The exterior of the new Z / Fairlady Z is largely based on references to past models in the series. For example, the proportions of the body with a long hood and a sloping roof line are a tribute to the first Datsun 240Z of the S30 generation (1969). Round headlights with two semi-circular DRL sections and a deliberately rough, rectangular grille are also a reference to the S30.

The Nissan Fairlady Z is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 model VR30DDTT with twin turbocharging (405 hp and 475 Nm). Buyers will be offered to choose between a six-speed “mechanics” and a nine-speed “automatic” (in the second case, you can order GT-R-style paddle shifters). Drive — only rear.

Later, the coupe will be available in simple versions with a lower price.

There, in Tokyo, they showed a special version of the Fairlady Z Customized Proto made in a single copy. It is painted in the signature orange color of the 1970 Fairlady Z432R homologation lightweight model, which today is one of the rarest and most expensive cars in Nissan history. In 2020, such a copy went under the hammer for 88.5 million yen (=7,73,490 usd).

The Fairlady Z Customized Proto has an original front bumper with custom-shaped air intakes, a rear wing and 19-inch wheels, and black accents are scattered around the body.

The Nissan Fairlady Z Customized Proto is not going to be mass-produced, the project was created to attract attention and strengthen the emotional connection with the Fairlady Z from the 70s.
