Toyota Motor on January 25 introduced a new, third generation of the full-size frame SUV Toyota Sequoia (factory index XK80). The previous generation stood on the assembly line for almost 15 years – since 2007.Â
As before, the Sequoia is based on the current version of the Toyota Tundra, now a third-generation pickup truck with a frame platform with welded box-section spars stamped from high-strength steel. The chassis is called the Toyota F1 (TNGA-F), a modification of which is also used on the Land Cruiser 300 SUV . That is, Tundra and TLC300 have a lot in common, but are not identical.Â
Up to the middle roof pillar, the body of the Toyota Sequoia is also unified with the Tundra: the same doors, front fenders, hood and headlights are used, but the SUV has its own bumper and grille design with a large hexagonal pattern and chrome trim (some trim levels have a different pattern). The C-pillars are tilted forward to create a dynamic silhouette.Â
The engine was also taken from Toyota Tundra, but only in one version – in the form of an i-Force hybrid system, where an electric motor assists the 3.5-liter gasoline V6 with twin turbocharging, the total power of the installation is 443 hp, torque – 790 Nm . Gearbox – 10-speed “automatic”, drive – rear or full. The purely gasoline version remained the lot of the pickup truck.Â
The maximum weight of the towed trailer has increased by 22% relative to its predecessor, up to 4082 kg. This allows you to hook a trailer with a residential module or a platform with a motor boat to the car. As for the cargo directly in the trunk, the Load-Leveling Rear Height Control Air Suspension is provided to level the body.Â
Interior of Toyota Sequoia
The main difference from the pickup inside was the third row of seats with the ability to adjust in the longitudinal direction by 152 mm.Â
Already included in the basic package is a 14-inch touch screen media system (the Tundra requires an extra charge for this), heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel and electric folding third-row seats. There are five trim levels in total: SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro and Capstone. For the SR5 and Limited, you can order the TRD Off-Road package, which includes off-road tuned Bilstein dampers and springs. The TRD Pro version with Fox suspension is adapted more for asphalt.
Options include a 14-speaker JBL audio system, a panoramic roof, a head-up display and wireless charging for smartphones.
The SUV will be produced at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing plant in Texas. The target market for the model is the same – the USA and Canada. Sequoia will reach American dealers of the brand in the summer of 2022. Prices have not yet been announced.
The outgoing Toyota Sequoia XK60 has been produced since 2007, its overall length is 5.2 m.
