General Motors has unveiled an updated version of the GMC Sierra HD frame pickups. The modernization affected the medium-duty models, which are indicated by the indices 2500 HD and 3500 HD.
The design of the front of the cars was changed – a radiator grille of a new configuration with several options for the grid pattern and even more “fat” chrome trim was used. Daytime running lights have been moved under a single glass of headlights, and the graphics of the rear lights have been changed.
Inside, there is an improved media system with a large 13.4-inch screen. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is also available as an option. The quality of finishing materials has been improved.
The units have been upgraded. The 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbodiesel now develops 477 hp. power and 1322 Nm of torque (+26 hp and +88 Nm relative to the old version), it is combined with a 10-speed Allison “automatic”. The petrol 6.6-liter V8 still produces 401 hp. and 629 Nm, but now it is aggregated not with a 6-speed automatic transmission, but with a 10-speed one, like the diesel version. The drive at the choice of the buyer can be rear or full.
The 2500 HD has a payload capacity of up to 1.7 tons and a maximum trailer weight of up to 10.2 tons. For 3500 HD, the parameters are up to 3.3 tons and up to 16.3 tons, respectively.
The Transparent Trailer View system has been improved, which is a rear-view camera that shows what is happening behind the trailer. It has become compatible with low-bed semi-trailers and trailers. The “blind” zone monitoring complex can now extend its action to the spaces around the trailer/semi-trailer.
Cruise control has become adaptive – it is able to recognize and compensate for the loss of a given speed in situations where the car is towing a load with large windage. At the same time, in this scenario, the system increases the distance to the vehicle in front. The built-in scales in the cargo platform are able to warn the driver about exceeding the maximum permissible vehicle weight established by the manufacturer.
A new top-end Denali Ultimate package has appeared in the range – on the outside it is distinguished by decorative elements covered with dark chrome and 20-inch wheels of a special design. The Sierra HD in this version is equipped with the innovative MultiPro tailgate, which incorporates power pegs. In the cabin – genuine leather trim, decorative inserts made of dark payday wood, and a ceiling covered with micro suede. The front seats are equipped with electric adjustments and a massage function. Also included in the Denali Ultimate is a premium audio system, a 15-inch head-up display, and a power sunroof.
Sales of the updated GMC Sierra HD 2500 / 3500 in the US will start in 2023. It should be noted here that the Chevrolet Silverado HD, which is the same root as it, underwent an update at the end of September. Recall that the current generation GMC Sierra HD 2500 / 3500 has been produced since 2018.
